A Friend for Brooklyn

Our friends, Erin and Justin, brought home their German Short-haired Pointer (a cousin breed to Weims) puppy about a month before we got Brooklyn. Their pup, Scout, is twenty days older than Brooklyn.

What does this mean? Puppy dates, of course! The first weekend Brooklyn came home, Glenna and I took her to a park to play with Scout (and Erin and Justin). Perhaps Brook was a bit overwhelmed by the newness of everything and/or by Scout's energy, because she didn't play much. Their first encounter was mostly one-sided, meaning Scout played with Brooklyn but Brooklyn didn't play back.

As you can see, their second play-date was a different story. Brooklyn has figured out the two-player game called "wear-yourself-out-until-you-fall-asleep."

When Scout first arrived, the pups kept their distance. Then they realized there were new toys to play with! Funny how dogs are often just like people. Of course they wanted the toys that didn't belong to them. Everybody knows his friend has better toys.

There were a few moments of expressing dominance, on both sides, and a couple scuffles we had to break up during dinner. Brooklyn likes to sit on Scout's head, apparently (?).
I just looked at Ty and said, "I didn't teach her that."

There's nothing more fun than tugging on a toy that tugs back! They entertained us with this game for a very long time, first with this toy and then with another.

I suggested a photo, so we can see the size of the pups and how they grow. The only thing harder than trying to get two toddlers to pose for a picture is getting two pups to pay attention. They kept trying to play with each other, even when in our arms.

And this may be the best photo fail ever.

A few hours later, and we have two very worn-out pups! Let me just say that they did not fall asleep by choice. They played constantly, but after a few hours we noticed the energy level had begun to decrease. But still they refused to stop. It wasn't until they were separated and given opportunity to conk out that they actually did. Seriously, they are just like the toddlers you have to make go to bed!

Brooklyn heard Scout was sleeping on Erin's lap and quickly made herself more comfortable.

It's so fun to learn puppy life alongside a friend! Since Scout is a few weeks ahead of Brooklyn, I'm always asking Erin what's normal for the age. And of course we send cute puppy updates quite often.

Puppy dates = tired pups = happy moms :)

  1. Missy was pretty worn out by Brooklyn's visit, too! She slept well that night. =)
