Still??

I've been thought of as a twelve-year-old for many years. I'm hoping this owes to my young looks and not to my very mature actions. (What a thing to post after those tape pictures, huh?) Or to my young-sounding voice, according to these students.
That was in high school. Early high school. I graduated from high school two years ago and I've been in the college world for just as long. Surely my twelve-year-old status has been moved up to at least sixteen or seventeen. Right? (After all, I've been driving for four years.) Wishful thinking.

Last night was my piano students' recital. They all performed so well! I was very proud of the way they played and carried themselves. One of my students brought an honorary grandma along to see her perform. In efforts of being a friendly, amiable teacher, I introduced myself. Her reaction?

"You're the teacher??! I thought you were thirteen!"

What else could I do but smile and say, "I get that a lot."
Of course, I promised I was indeed in college.
She didn't look convinced, and I almost offered to show her my ID.

I'm beginning to think I should check my birth certificate.

  1. Lol I know exactly what you are talking about. I guess we'll appreciate this when we're fifty.

  2. You'll definitely appreciate it in your 40's! I was THRILLED to hear that everyone at work thought I was in my early 30's. Never thought I'd be saying that!

And Jess, I DID have to show them my I.D. because they didn't believe me. My son is older than most of them!

  3. I think you still look 12. Grandma probably thought so too, and was just being polite.
