In a parking lot.
The road near my sister's house is quite busy with motor bikes, cars, and big trucks. Street vendors are set up along both sides of the road. Traffic rules don't always apply, and there are no sidewalks. The road would have been fine early in the morning, but by mid-morning it was definitely too busy to host my run.
Noui was kind enough to take me on her motor bike to a suitable location. She doesn't normally run, but she managed to walk/run some and then sweetly sat and waited for me to finish. Have I mentioned how kind Lao people are? Some of Julia's students met us on Monday and called today to beg permission to bring over dinner for us before we head back to the States. I mean, who does that?? But I digress...
My run was fairly challenging. Not only was there little change of scenery, but this parking lot was a combination of gravel, mud, and misplaced cinder blocks (of sorts). As a way to keep my focus, I turned the parking lot into an obstacle course - leaping over blocks, striding over mud puddles, etc. Unfortunately, there was no rain on this run to cool me off. While it felt devilishly hot, Noui asked if I wanted a jacket for the motor bike. I'm guessing it gets much, much hotter. I wouldn't dream of running at 10AM in the summer months, here or back home!
Looking forward to a long run on the Mekong and hoping I may even be able to fit in one more shorter run!
Sone braided my hair to keep it out of my face. |
(Yes, I washed those shorts.) |
