Mix-up

I'm supposed to be pet sitting Lola, a chihuahua down the street, this weekend.
This afternoon I went over for my first visit.

To my surprise, Lola was not there. I double-checked the text message I received that gave instructions for Lola's care. Yes, I was supposed to be there. I did not have her owner's number saved in my phone, though, so I quickly memorized the number that had texted me.

The lady who answered had a thick Spanish accent, like Lola's mommy. There was a lot of background noise, so I had difficulty hearing her. As soon as I said, "I can't find Lola..." she responded saying that she would give me her mother's number.
Lola often stays with her grandma, who lives in our same neighborhood.

I was on board until she said something about Lola's number. I think she had been saying that all along, but I really couldn't hear her.

Finally I interrupted her and said, "I think I have the wrong number. Lola is a dog."

She just burst into laughter, "Lola is my sister!"

Turns out I switched the ending numbers. But seriously, what are the odds?

  1. Hilarious! We used to get wrong number calls for a guy who we actually knew! "No, Jaime doesn't live here anymore. No, we don't have his number. No, we didn't know he owed you money . . . "
