(Headaches don't exactly afford the option of reading.)
Let's see. Between Saturday and Sunday I watched
1) Anne of Green Gables & Anne of Avonlea (that's longer than the 5-hour BBC P&P, folks!)
My opinion: Classic favorite. Everyone should watch it. NOT just a chick flick. It just so happens to follow the life of a girl, but it deals with real life issues. And let's not forget the lovely scenery. It truly made me want to return to PEI.
2) The Pink Panther 2
My opinion: Silly. Fine for a break from dramas, but not really my kind of movie. Then again, I like very few comedies. This was a family choice. Too much sexual content for a PG movie.
3) Marley and Me
My opinion: This is one of those movies that everyone talked about. And I mean everyone! I felt I really needed to watch it when some of my kids kept talking about it. I wanted to know what the big hype was, be attentive to what had caught our culture's heart. So what did I think? I thought it was a very fair portrayal of American culture. (No wonder our culture loved it.) It was very well made and well told: good story line, true struggles, etc. It had some funny dog-related parts (if you have a bad dog - or maybe TWO like my family - you'll relate very well) and yes, it had good emotional appeal, too. It also had some good messages about family, but they were often mixed in with twisted ones. Again, too much sexual content for a PG movie.
4) House
My opinion: Based on the book by Ted Dekker and Frank Pereti, this phycological thriller left me disappointed. It didn't ever reach the depths that the book did and left the viewer slightly confused. Good book. Okay movie. Warning: they're both a little creepy, but the book is worth the read if you're up to it.
Oh, but I loved the Anberlin music that accompanied the opening and closing credits! That was a nice surprise.
Upon further thought, I bet I could pull more lasting meaning from Sweeney Todd. And House was based on a Christian book. Hm. Might make for a good contrast and comparison paper.
5) To Catch a Thief (1955)
My opinion: Grace Kelly is beautiful. I love Cary Grant. Story is a little slow a times, not too original. Then again, maybe this was the original? Still, a good watch after all those years.
6) Charade (1963)
My opinion: One of my favorite "old movies!" Audrey Hepburn is more beautiful than Grace Kelly. (Debatable? Nah.) She's funnier in this one, too. I still love Cary Grant. James Coburn is awesome. Music is fun and suspenseful. Story line is great! I've seen this movie numerous times, but it's still one of my favorites! Oh, and it's really funny at some points.
Okay, so there were other great things about being sick. For one, I was pampered by my mom. Secondly, I couldn't keep my boyfriend away and he stuck with me. :) Oh, and I didn't have to do homework all weekend. Our internet was down a lot anyway, so that sorta worked out. I should shout out a thanks to my dad, who took care of some pet sitting for me. Thanks, Daddy!
On the other hand, however, there were many letdowns to being sick.
Up at the top is the fact that I didn't get to welcome home the Mexico team last night. :( At this point, I'm no longer contagious, but I suppose I was at 11pm last night. Secondly, Mr. and Mrs. Whatley didn't get to stay with us. They were going to stay Saturday and Sunday night, but they couldn't risk catching anything - not with their new grand baby and all. Lastly, I didn't get to see Sia at church! :( We'll catch up one of these days, Sia! :)
I awoke this morning at 6:30, and my first reaction was, "I slept all the way through the night? Yippee!" I'm really feeling WAY better. This morning compared to yesterday morning is like night compared to day. I'm so thankful.
Now I can...
...get back to studying physical science? And that, my friends, is the only bad thing about being well. :)
Oh no! I didn't know you were sick. I'm glad you're feeling better though. Can't wait to see you this week!
ReplyDeletePhysical science WILL come to an end! Looking forward to that day!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you're feeling better. Ty is once again demanding that he will not get sick. He's using some kind of Jedi mind trick, I guess.
So sorry to hear you've been sick, and very glad to hear you're feeling much better now! :)
ReplyDeleteWe're big Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant fans here, too... love both To Catch a Thief and Charade! Have you seen How to Steal a Million with Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole? It's wonderful. Also, Father Goose with Cary Grant... Hmmmmm....now I'm in the mood for an old movie....
Aunt Cathy,
ReplyDeleteNo, but I've been really wanting to see How to Steal A Million!! And Paris- When it Sizzles. Is that one any good? I'll also have to check out Father Goose; I have a hunch I may have seen that many years ago.
Haven't seen Paris When it Sizzles - will check on that! :) Know you will love How to Steal a Million - it's quite charming!
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling much, much better,
Love Aunt C.
